Give Yourself Credit for How Far You’ve Come
Chapter 26: Give Yourself Credit for How Far You’ve Come
Sometimes we become so focused on where we want to go that we forget to look back and recognise how far we've already travelled.
We think about the goals we haven't reached yet. The things we still need to change. The dreams we're still waiting for.
And without realising it, we can make ourselves feel as though we're not doing enough.
But today, I want you to remember something:
You have already come a long way.
There were days you weren't sure how you would get through, but somehow you did.
There were moments when you felt tired, discouraged, or uncertain about what was ahead, yet you kept moving.
Maybe you didn't move quickly.
Maybe you had to stop and rest.
Maybe you even took a few steps backwards.
But you're still here.
And that matters.
🌿 Your Progress Deserves to Be Recognised
We often celebrate the big moments—getting the job, reaching the goal, completing the course, starting the business, or finally achieving something we've worked toward for years.
But what about everything that happens before the breakthrough?
What about getting up on a difficult morning?
What about choosing to try again after disappointment?
What about learning something new even though you were afraid you wouldn't be good enough?
What about setting a boundary you were once afraid to set?
What about choosing peace instead of responding to something that would normally upset you?
These moments may seem small, but they are evidence of growth.
Not all progress comes with applause.
Sometimes progress is quiet.
Sometimes it's simply realising:
"I don't react the way I used to."
"I'm learning to believe in myself."
"I'm getting better at protecting my peace."
"I'm becoming stronger."
That is progress too.
💚 Stop Comparing Your Journey
One of the easiest ways to overlook your own progress is to compare yourself with someone else.
You see where they are today, but you don't see everything it took for them to get there.
And they don't know everything you've had to overcome to get where you are.
Your journey belongs to you.
There is no deadline for becoming the person you're meant to be.
You don't have to have everything figured out today.
Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Keep trying.
And most importantly, give yourself credit along the way.
🌱 Look Back—But Only to See How Far You’ve Come
Today, instead of looking back with regret, look back with appreciation.
Think about the person you were a year ago.
What have you learned?
What have you survived?
What have you become better at?
What have you finally learned to let go of?
Maybe you're not exactly where you want to be yet.
That's okay.
You're still becoming.
You're still growing.
You're still moving forward.
And one day, the things you're working toward now may become part of the story you tell about how far you've come.
So don't wait until you've reached the finish line to be proud of yourself.
Give yourself credit today.
You deserve that too.
🌸 Today's Reflection
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:
What is something I've overcome or improved in my life that I don't give myself enough credit for?
Write it down.
Don't minimise it.
Celebrate it.
💚 Today's Affirmation
“I am proud of how far I have come. I honour my progress, trust my journey, and continue moving forward one step at a time.”
A Little Reminder Before You Go
You don't need to be perfect.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
And you don't need to reach your final destination before you're allowed to feel proud.
You are growing.
You are learning.
You are becoming.
And that is worth celebrating.
